The Mangosteen fruit is roughly rounded with thick leathery leaves attached at the stem end. The outer shell of the mangosteen is thick, smooth, firm and purple in color. The mangosteen flesh contains white triangular pieces which can be either seedless or contain several flat seeds. Mangosteen’s texture is soft and juicy with a luscious mouthfeel and their anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory properties and ability to combat free radicals and improve the immune system.
When eating a mangosteen, first peel off the skin and eat only the small pieces inside. Mangosteens are often used in desserts like custards, cakes, smoothies or shakes.
